New transport program helping to support vaccination access

Wednesday, 07 July 2021

The first trips as part of a new Commonwealth-funded Community Transport Program commenced recently, helping reduce barriers to the COVID-19 vaccination.

An initiative of Volunteering Geelong, the program supports community members experiencing vulnerability and/or with limited transport options, such as older community members and people with disability, by providing them with transport to COVID-19 vaccination centres across the Greater Geelong region.

The City of Greater Geelong is the auspice of the grant funding on behalf of Volunteering Geelong along with providing support for the roll-out of the program.

Barwon Health is also supporting the program by assisting with COVID-19 vaccination bookings referrals for community members experiencing vulnerability.

Community members will be provided with transport each weekday via two 8-seater vehicles performing two trips each day, one at 10:30am and a second at 2:00pm.

Each trip will be managed by a smart-booking system and with COVID-safe measures in place.

The Community Transport Program is supported by the Commonwealth Home Support Programme via its COVID-19 Aged Care Industry Support.

To make a booking to access the community transport service contact Volunteering Geelong on 5221 1377 during business hours or email [email protected].
