Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the High Risk Accommodation Response (HRAR) team have continued to provide support to those in need.
The HRAR team act to prevent, prepare for and respond early to coronavirus (COVID-19) infection within public housing and other high-risk accommodation settings with shared facilities.
Recently HRAR Barwon and the Barwon South West Public Health Unit (BSWPHU) partnered with City of Greater Geelong, Volunteering Geelong and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme to provide free transport to and from their vaccination appointment at the Community Vaccination Hub in Norlane.
HRAR has also recently provided support to BSWPHU Contact Tracers in communicating and supporting vulnerable people with COVID-19 and those at risk.
HRAR lead Sue Harmann believes the work of the HRAR and BSWPHU vaccination teams has helped to ensure vulnerable people are vaccinated and protected.
“Our months of working to ensure vulnerable people had access to vaccination with low barriers, has meant many people we support have been vaccinated. This has made a huge difference to some recent outbreaks in our region,” she says.
“Having these residents fully vaccinated has provided protection to vulnerable people and it has been comforting knowing we’ve been able to support and care for them.”
The transport program has currently provided vaccination transport to 110 passengers via 37 trips. Each passenger is transported from their doorstep to the vaccination hub and home again.
